UPP Extends IT Contracts With
Defense Logistics Agency

Downers Grove, IL -- UPP Business Systems, LLC, a leading provider of Information Technology solutions nationwide, announced the extension of IT sub-contracts with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). A United States Department of Defense organization, the DLA provides supply support, and technical and logistics services to the military, select Federal agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, and other civilian agencies.

UPP has been working with the DLA's Defense Supply Center Richmond (DSCR), in Richmond, Virginia, to provide Map Mission support for America's War Fighters. The DSCR is the DLA's "lead center for aviation weapon systems and environmental logistics support," and the primary supply source for more than 900,000 parts and operating items.

In praise of UPP personnel on site, a DSCR Team Lead noted he is "thoroughly satisfied with... UPP people" and has "grown to confidently trust and rely upon their technical expertise."

UPP consultants are working closely with the agency's Richmond Map Facility team to provide on-going support for the Defense Mapping Agency Automated Distribution Management System (DADMS), an existing Unisys-based legacy COBOL system used for electronic processing and distribution of geo-spatial information - maps and charts - from the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, or NIMA.

Simultaneously, the UPP team is supporting the DLA's Business Systems Modernization (BSM) initiative by converting the legacy applications into a more robust, customer-oriented, web-based application, supported by an Oracle database. The new applications will eventually interface with commercially available off-the-shelf software for Order Fulfillment, Planning, and Procurement currently being implemented by the DLA.

UPP has been involved in analyzing programs, and making modifications to improve performance and procedures, correct existing problems, and add new features, using WFL and other Unisys tools as well as Oracle. The group has also provided support for upgrade and migration efforts, assisting in modifying hundreds of programs for migrations at several facilities, and in installing new systems.

My compliments to your organization!" enthused the DLA Team Lead. "[Your consultants] positively contribute to the DADMS team, are willing to accept more responsibilities on their own initiative, and work well in our team environment."
