Woburn, Massachusetts
Part of the Greater Boston metropolitan area, less than 10 miles north of Boston and about 20 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean is Woburn, Massachusetts. Perhaps one of the oldest communities in New England, having been first settled in 1640, the Woburn area offers much for the naturalist and history buff. Situated near the mouth of the Mystic River, opportunities for hiking, cycling, skiing, fishing and appreciating nature abound. The historic Middlesex Canal, which once connected Boston Harbor to the Merrimack River and ultimately the city of Concord, New Hampshire, also runs through greater Woburn. Additional sites of historical interest are found throughout Greater Boston, including in Lexington just five miles away. If team sports is more to your liking, baseball, basketball, football and hockey can be found in nearby Boston.
