Indianapolis, Indiana
The capitol of Indiana and that state's largest city, Indianapolis is located near the center of Indiana and divided by the White River and Fall Creek. The city is laid out in a circular pattern, much like Washington, DC, including at its focal point a 287-foot limestone and bronze monument commemorating "Hoosier" veterans. Indianapolis' nearly 800,000 residents enjoy a variety of art and cultural attractions, numerous historical districts and museums, a zoo with botanical gardens, and more than 200 parks (10,000 acres) including Eagle Creek which is one of the largest municipal parks in the country. Several sports teams, including professional basketball and football, are also based in Indianapolis. And within its borders is the independent community of Speedway, home to the famed Indianapolis 500.
