Fargo, North Dakota
Located in the fertile Red River Valley, Fargo (pop. about 100,000) is at the center of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area, comprised of communities on either side of the picturesque Red River, which makes up some of the boundary between North Dakota and Minnesota. Home to North Dakota State University, Fargo offers arts and events though the university as well as local theatre companies, in addition to a symphony orchestra, opera and jazz; museums for fans of art, airplanes and history; and a zoo. For outdoor and sporting enthusiasts, the area is home to dozens of parks and campgrounds, bicycle/running and ski trails, numerous golf courses, an annual marathon, and minor league hockey and baseball teams. Other professional sports teams are based about three hours away in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
