Dallas, Texas
At the heart of the largest consolidated metropolitan area in the state of Texas is Dallas (pop. about 1.2 million). The city's Fair Park - one of more than 400 city parks - is home to one of the largest collections of art deco architecture in the country, eight museums, a planetarium, a science center with IMAX theater, The Dallas Aquarium, and six performance facilities, and presents more than 115 special events and cultural festivals each year, including the Texas State Fair. There is also much for history buffs, including several sites related to the assassination of President John. F. Kennedy, and historic walking tours (with wineries nearby). Additionally, area residents enjoy more than 60 miles of running/biking trails, a dozen lakes, half-a-dozen golf courses and a number of professional sports teams.
