IBM SP2 Parallel Server Administration
A number of Fortune 500 corporations have drawn upon UPP's expertise in the administration of massively parallel server environments. One such leading client in the retail sales industry relies on a staff of UPP consultants to provide technical resources for their SP2 parallel environment. The team is responsible for installing and implementing IBM SP2 frame technology complete with high-speed switching to support parallel data environments being used for heavy OLTP and OLAP applications. This particular environment includes seven SP2 frames with over eighty nodes supporting
over 20,000 users. The servers house 1 terabyte of SQL-compliant data (Oracle Parallel Edition, DB2, and Sybase) in parallel for client access. Another such client, a Fortune 500 conglomerate with interests in recreational consumer goods and amusement facilities, has relied upon UPP SP2 support for their central operations center, including
three IBM SP2 complexes as well as IBM RS/6000 servers and Sun systems. UPP is generally responsible in this environment for UNIX systems administration, including hardware installations, operating system upgrades, disk sharing, CPU upgrades, design, testing and implementation of disaster recovery plans (onsite and remote), etc. With a team of administrators, provide 24x7 support to more than a dozen of this client's facilities.
