HP-9000 HP-UX Administration

UPP has assisted several clients with the administration of their HP-9000 HP-UX environments. The company has long been supporting a major, Midwest-based consumer goods firm with the management of a 200-server HP-9000 environment (13,000 users worldwide). This platform supports Oracle-based applications and databases, including Oracle Financials, Manufacturing, CPG and multiple in-house applications. For this client, a team of UPP consultants has been responsible for overseeing installation, maintenance and upgrade of HP as well DEC Alpha, DEC VAX, Sun, Windows and Novell servers, along with all aspects of systems administration, capacity planning, performance tuning, troubleshooting, etc. This also includes enterprise-wide backup, rapid recovery and data archival activities, using such tools as Veritas and St. Bernard OFM. Additionally, UPP is responsible for developing and managing a test lab for this same client, including administration of the HP, DEC and Sun servers and development of analysis monitoring tools using BMC Patrol, ManageX and native utilities. The lab includes two network segments, one Frame Relay and a WAN simulation. Further, UPP personnel are responsible for the HP-9000 (and Solaris) systems as well as LAN/WAN administration for an office furniture manufacturer, and also administer Oracle Financials in an HP-UX environment for one of the nation's largest, privately-owned companies, a principal in the oil and gas industry.
