IBM RS/6000 AIX Administration
UPP has established a high level of expertise in the support of IBM AIX environments (RS/6000, SP2, SMP, and MPP). The company is responsible for the administration and management of the UNIX server (RS/6000, SP2) environment of a multi-billion dollar international consumer goods company, including more than 200 IBM RS/6000 (AIX-HACMP) servers providing the backbone for highly-customized SAP applications in addition to countless homegrown IBM mainframe-, Web- and Visual Basic-developed systems backed by Oracle, Sybase, DB2, and other databases. The environment supports over 20,000 users worldwide. With a team, AIX UNIX administration duties include installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware and operating system software, assistance with database upgrades, user maintenance and security, file system maintenance, performance analysis and tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery and disaster preparedness, miscellaneous Shell scripting for automation, application development support and overall user support. With a team, UPP is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving LAN/WAN problems (TCP/IP), mainframe to UNIX network connectivity problems (LU6.2, RJE, SNA), sendmail e-mail issues, problems with asynchronous devices such as dumb terminals, printers and modems as well as truck scales, and RF (radio frequency) units. Support in this environment is 24x7, including pager duty and travel.
