For more than a decade UPP Business Systems has provided Systems Infrastructure and Integration Support Services to Kellogg Company. Founded in 1906 with Kellogg's Corn FlakesŪ, the ready-to-eat products innovator feeds the hunger and "The Tiger Inside" by backing company operations with only the best, including the latest in technology such as multi-platform UNIX and Windows, Oracle Financials, SAP, Cyborg, Lotus Notes, and innumerable homegrown systems built using primarily Oracle or Web tools - most all supported through the years by UPP Business Systems.
Focusing on the enterprise systems infrastructure including Kellogg's corporate offices, R&D and select manufacturing plants, UPP Business Systems staff have provided network, data, Web and voice communications administration and support, including responsibility for HP, Sun and DEC UNIX as well as Windows systems; 3Com hubs and switches, Cisco routers and associated cabling; VPN and wireless technologies; Lucent communications equipment; Compaq, Dell, Gateway and Toshiba servers, workstations, laptops; dozens of commercial off-the-shelf software products; and proprietary applications for R&D, plant operations, financials, sales & marketing, etc.
Overall, this includes all server- and workstation-related hardware and software for the R&D organization; management of the HP /DEC /Sun/ Windows test lab with Frame Relay and WAN; providing Windows server support for the Chemistry department; maintaining and upgrading HP-UX, DEC, Solaris; maintaining and upgrading Windows servers and managing the conversion/ upgrade of thousands of workstations; implementing a wireless LAN in a simulated plant environment; setting up hardware, software, databases in training rooms; testing software for integration into the Kellogg environment; developing packages, scripts, templates for unattended installs, data collection and systems monitoring; and administering SMS for a user base of 3,000 workstations, 150 servers.
In related efforts, also provided support for Kellogg's plant voice and data communications systems. Designed and implemented a plant intranet with deliverables including physical and logical network diagrams, voice and data system detail, installation and support procedures, hardware and software documentation, etc. Additionally, involved in network migrations, including site-wide IP reconfiguration, directory migrations, hardware and software inventorying, software evaluation and updating; development of database tools for inventory control, resource scheduling and allocation, and system monitoring and reporting; and documentation.
