Remembering that Customer is King
"What Matters to You, Matters to Us"
UPP Business Systems has been providing Systems Integration and Infrastructure Support services to Gordon Food Service since 1998. With over 100 years in the foodservice business, family-owned Gordon Food Service distributes more than 15,000 products to tens of thousands of clients throughout the United States and Canada. Keeping with their maxim, "Customer is King," Gordon Food Service employs the latest in technology to better serve their client base and maintain an edge over their competitors.
In recent years, owing to rapid business expansion, Gordon Food Service invited UPP, which had long been providing the company with Unisys A-Series/ClearPath legacy systems management expertise, to assist with the integration of newly acquired business units, systems and processes, including legacy systems built primarily on Unisys with DMSII, COBOL, WFL, CANDE, COMS, as well as Oracle-based systems and new Web applications built primarily using Java tools.
Focusing on client-server and Web application development, UPP Business Systems personnel are responsible for the Java/J2EE/J2SE design and development of several components for the Universal Order Capture system, as well as the Java/J2EE development of a Search Engine using Jakarta Lucerne. Also re-engineered existing Pricing functionality for improved performance, including refactoring application flow, optimizing JDBC throughput, and improving communications with an outside application using message-driven EJBs. Employed UML, Hibernate, Spring Framework and WebLogic in Java development.
Using primarily Visual Basic and Oracle tools, also converted a Customer Relationship Management system, including five Visual Basic and ASP applications, to an object-oriented n-tier system for optimal code execution and maintainability. Converted thousands of lines of VB/ASP code, modified hundreds of SQL statements for Oracle and Microsoft Access databases, and conducted unit and system testing. Additionally converted/upgraded several MS Access applications to use Oracle; converted Crystal Reports, improved report printing for remote users, and developed report fax functionality. Also, using C, developed a Price Quote interface between a Java application and a Visual Basic application.
Moreover, involved in EDI conversion/upgrade/customization, using Lawson Financials, and also Amphire Solutions, with Oracle in a Sun UNIX environment. Involved in analysis, design, development, testing of programs for EDI Lockbox transactions, Lawson Financials Supply Chain Management EDI 850 and FAX Purchase Order generation and documentation for Distribution Center expansion, and Lawson SCM data integration from legacy systems. Responsible for data mapping, process/program design using Lawson CASE and Oracle SQL. Monitored processes and troubleshot EDI-related problems.
