Reinforcing the Floral Information Superhighway
"The Leader in Quality, Artistry and Dependability"
Since 1998, Systems Integrator, UPP Business Systems, has been helping Florists Transworld Delivery, better known as FTD, the largest floral company in the world, maintain continued dominance in their marketplace with legacy systems management as well as development support for migration to their new Web-based systems. Through their "Mercury Network," or Floral Information Superhighway, FTD supports an international floral delivery network of 50,000 affiliated FTD Florists in 154 countries.
In 2002, FTD incorporated FTD.COM, an Internet and telephone marketer of flowers and specialty gifts, selling to customers directly through the website and their 1 (800) SEND-FTD number. Seeking to expand FTD.COM's reach into product ordering for items such as gourmet food, wine and gift baskets, the company set out to modernize their Order Entry and Order Management systems, moving to Web-based functionality using Java and .NET technologies with Oracle on the back end.
Having demonstrated long-term success in legacy systems maintenance of FTD's mission-critical business applications using primarily PICK on a UNIX platform, UPP was invited to assist with the company's long-term, multi-phase business systems modernization efforts, moving to the Web-based platform. Working with a team, UPP personnel have been involved in front end Web Application Development of Customer Order Management, Customer Service, Gift Certificate and Chargeback components of the new Java/J2EE systems.

Tested new screens using JDeveloper. Responsible for bug fixing, implementation, and user-requested enhancements.
In related efforts, additionally involved in enhancement of the Mercury business tool, a Windows-based set of client-server applications that allow florists to communicate with one another and FTD Corporate. Took part in development of a Mercury training version for clients as well as a new product Microsoft.NET release.
