Beginning as Empire Carpets in 1959, Empire Today is one of the largest home improvement and home furnishing companies in the country, despite having no retail stores or showrooms. Offerings include carpeting, flooring, window treatments and more - all available with warehouse direct pricing and convenient shop-at-home service.
With a team, UPP consultants are responsible for maintaining day-to-day operations of Empire Today's local, wide and storage area networks. Maintain and support Windows 2000/2003 servers in the company's network operations center, housing several dozen servers on a mixed platform, with duties including but not limited to: application management, Active Directory management, patch/service pack management, disk management, troubleshooting and resolution, preventative maintenance, security, backup and recovery, etc.
Install, configure and support network hardware and equipment, including Cisco routers and switches, Windows servers (clustering), fax servers, storage and backup systems, workstations, and associated network/operating systems and/or software. Isolate and replace failing switches. Troubleshoot internal and external routing problems. Configure new switches with appropriate VLANS. Involved in IOS and CatOS maintenance and upgrades. Take steps to prevent, mitigate DOS attacks. Includes work with Cisco PIX and ASA Firewalls, ACL maintenance. Employ network management and monitoring tools such as Fluke.
Additional responsibilities include scripting for automation and ease of maintenance; creating backup jobs, performing nightly backups, daily rotations, and data validations. Also research emerging technologies; contribute to improving network management processes and procedures, take part in change planning; review, recommend and implement security requirements; and provide documentation as needed (for example, for change management authorizations). Employ and support Microsoft tools and software such as MS IIS, SharePoint, Project, Visio and Office/Outlook.
