"To provide our customers superior and secure information processing services in support of the warfighter."

Working with select partners, Infrastructure Support Specialist, UPP Business Systems, has been supporting the Defense Information Systems Agency at one of their several Defense Enterprise Computer Computers (DECC) in their mission "... combining traditional Enterprise Server expertise with innovative Open Systems and Networking technologies... in support of the warfighter." This includes IBM mainframe infrastructure support, focused on systems administration, performance management and optimization.

The DECC facility and its detachments provide centralized information system processing services to a highly diverse and geographically dispersed customer base drawn from Department of Defense agencies, including the Joint Commands, all Military Departments, and other Governmental agencies. Their mission depends on the successful, well-maintained data processing operation of a wide variety of state-of-the-art hardware components and interconnected sub-systems on a 24x7 basis.

Working closely with men and women at the DECC, UPP Business Systems technical infrastructure personnel have been involved in tape, DASD and workload management in an IBM environment with over 40 LPARs running OS/390 and z/OS. This includes several HSM Plexes, more than 25 Automatic Tape Libraries (silos) with hundreds of thousands of tapes, and more than 20 terabytes of DASD.

Responsible for performance monitoring and optimization, correcting problems as they arise using such tools as RMF, OMEGAVIEW, OMEGAMON, and STROBE. Analyzed memory and DASD of all processors, and made recommendations for improved usage of resources. Reconfigured LPARs to help reduce overhead. Respond to SRR's as part of the STIG. Write Assembler routines. Supported software migrations on a number of LPARs.

Also involved in performance reporting, including Web-enabling using HTML and Java. Designed and developed a website with SAS-based graphics using a variety of device drivers. Incorporating reporting data charts into the website, and involved in reengineering to automate the delivery of reporting data on a weekly and monthly basis. This includes converting the back end to WebSphere Application Server for improved site usability and ease of maintenance.
