Providing a Full Range of Supply Chain Management Services

"Safety, Integrity, Commitment, Excellence."

In 1998 UPP Business Systems began to support Con-Way, Inc. (formerly CNF, Inc.) and their Con-Way Transportation Services business unit, helping the "pacesetter" keep ahead of the competition and maintain continued dominance on North American highways. Founded in 1929, Con-Way, Inc. provides a full range of supply chain management services, such as regional trucking, ground expedite, truckload brokerage, air freight forwarding, regional asset-based trucking, global logistics management, e-commerce fulfillment, and third-party logistics. The company has a fleet of some 32,000 trucks and trailers.

Focusing on Systems Integration, UPP has provided a variety of client-server and Web Application Development services to Con-Way, Inc. component companies. Most recently, played a leading role in the Collector Tools (CT) integration; CT is a Java/J2EE ERP application built using Oracle Tools and WebSphere. Integrated CT with Oracle Financials Accounts Receivables, homegrown applications and Customer Information systems using TIBCO. Identified and designed integration APIs, schemas for integrating with distributed applications. Designed programs using Oracle PL/SQL for CT Web applications and EAI business processes. Conducted proof of concept to evaluate EAI Tools. Planned rollout and developed "roadmap" for future implementations.

Also responsible for customizing Oracle Financials Accounts Payable system to suit Con-Way business requirements. Modified AP Invoice entry function to generate batch name in a custom format and modified out of balance batch processing. Developed new report to print out of balance batches and incorporated functional security to batch entry so that only specific roles could enter and modify batches. Additionally developed a PL/SQL package to automate AP draft processing. Replacing the old manual entry system, the new automated drafts processing system creates a selection criteria record and submits Invoice selection, build, and customized formatting programs.

Moreover, developed the Con-Way STAR system for monitoring computer/system reliability. Designed, developed and implemented STAR using Visual Basic, SQL Server and Crystal Reports. Developed screens, using Visual Basic, for interfacing with PeopleSoft and DB2 databases. Interfaced the application with Microsoft Outlook. Also using VB, SQL Server and Crystal along with Oracle, developed an Expense processing application. Additionally developed applications for FTP of data to/from a mainframe, migrated a system from VB/MS Access to VB/SQL Server, and provided continuing support for legacy applications built using PC VB and dBase IV or MS Access, including migrating data from dBase to PeopleSoft.
